KILLED: Committee Votes Down Bill Protecting Underage Girls from Sexual Abuse, Recap + You're invited to Officer Holets Day in Santa Fe

2/5/2018

Picture
Saturday, the House Consumer and Public Affairs Committee voted to kill HB 56, the Parental Notification of Abortion Act, in a 3-2 party-line vote. Democrats on the committee chose to side with the abortion lobby over the rights of parents and the health and safety of girls across New Mexico.

Representative Roybal Caballero, a Catholic legislator, claimed she considered the abortion decision "sacred" and used that reasoning to vote for killing this bill protecting young girls.

Rep. Eliseo Alcon, who also voted to kill HB 56, showed more concern about saving dying fish than protecting girls from sexual abusers who take them in for an abortion.

Opponents of HB 56 ignorantly claim "the Legislature is not the best place to make individual medical decisions," despite the fact pro-abortion Rep. Deborah Armstrong who voted against the bill, sponsored 47 bills impacting "individual medical decisions" last year.

HB 56 addressed a loophole in state law allowing pregnant teens to be taken off school premises for an abortion without a parent's knowledge. The bill would require a parent be notified before an unemancipated minor can receive an abortion. Read the Albuquerque Journal story here.

Dr. Mary Rose Turner a 32-year practicing ER anesthesiologist (pictured below) shared expert testimony asking, "Would you want [forceps] inserted inside your daughter without your knowledge?" Dr. Turner further explained complications of uterine rupture, sepsis and the higher risks of complications without a complete family medical history, which only parents can provide.
"Uterine perforation that results in life-threatening bleeding has led to death," Dr. Turner continued and described the danger of having a late-term abortion in an outpatient clinic. "When babies die of natural causes in the uterus after 13 weeks gestation, this same procedure is always performed in a hospital under general anesthesia, with blood immediately available for transfusion, personnel and instruments on hand to perform emergency hysterectomy if needed to save the mother's life."
"We're being webcast today and I hope everyone out there is watching," said Representative Bob Wooley, a committee member. "Remember when you go to vote next year, remember who voted to keep parents out of their daughters lives."
Above left: Moriarity High School student Olivia Marcus, who testified in support of HB 56.
Above right: Representatives Rod Montoya, David Gallegos and Rick Little during HB 56 committee hearing.
"According to countless studies, even those cited by Planned Parenthood, 60-80% of pregnant minors 15 and under are impregnated by adult males," said Elisa Martinez, executive director of New Mexico Alliance for Life. "Again, look no further than U.S. Gymnastics Dr. Larry Nassar, who sexually abused over 150 young women and girls. In this climate, why would we possibly want to exclude parental involvement?" Martinez pointed out that the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, has actively opposed HB 56, while their website supports  parental notification and states, "New Mexico does no require parental consent or notification, (although some states do). Even though it may not be required by law, we strongly recommend that young woman discuss their pregnancy with their parents.

Representatives Eliseo Alcon (D - McKinley & Cibola), Deborah Armstrong (D - Bernalillo), Patricia Roybal Caballero (D - Bernalillo) voted to kill the bill, while representatives Monica Youngblood (R - Bernalillo) and Bob Wooley - (R - Chaves, Lea & Roosevelt), voted to advance the bill.

Parental Notification Needed for Aspirin, Not Abortion
Download our fact sheet here.

Did you know across New Mexico, teen girls can be taken off school property by an adult male and have an abortion, without any parental involvement or notification?
  • Parental consent is needed for an aspirin, but not an abortion.
  • If someone wanted to take your daughter in for an abortion, wouldn't you want to know?
  • A child age 13 or 14 years old should not be expected to manage her own healthcare while undergoing a life changing invasive, medical procedure,
  • Parental involvement provides vital information to avert medical risks that will affect their child's health, safety and emotional well-being.
  • Cases show girls are serially raped and sexually abused for years after the abortion clinic where they were taken ignored the state's mandatory reporting law.
  • 60-80% of pregnant minors 15 and under are impregnated by adult males
  • 37 states protect girls and require notification of a parent before a girl has an abortion.
  • The abortion industry has been caught actively concealing statutory rape and sex trafficking of minors from parents and authorities.
"We are behind 37 states in parental rights as far as protection of our sons and our daughters," said HB 56 sponsor Rep. Rick Little. "I have two daughters and there is no way you can say you want your daughter to get an abortion without your knowledge. That is absolutely unreasonable and absurd. We need to catch up with reality as far as the family and parental rights--when our daughters can't take an aspirin or go on a school trip, but the perpetrator can take them down to get an abortion without the parent knowing."
"On top of it, the parent is financially and personally responsible," Little added. "This is a lawsuit waiting to happen and I believe the state of New Mexico would lose that lawsuit."

U.S. Senate Voted Down Pain Capable Abortion Ban
Monday the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act was voted down  in the U.S. Senate. Both New Mexico Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich voted against protecting innocent life. The bill aimed to protect unborn babies, at 20 weeks gestation or farther, from the excruciating pain of abortion. The bill has also been called Micah's Law, referencing a baby born at 22-weeks who has gone on to live a normal, healthy life.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, the lead sponsor, said the United States should be ashamed to be one of only seven nations, along with China and North Korea, to allow elective abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

Pro-life senators have indicated they will bring this bill, or similar legislation, up again this year.

Pro-Life Bills Need YOUR Help, President Trump Declares Anniversary of Roe v. Wade Sanctity of Life Day

President Trump on Sanctity of Human Life Day
President Trump made a strong stand for life by becoming the first president to address the national March for Life, but also by marking the tragic, 45th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, January 22nd, as "Sanctity of Human Life Day"!
(Read more below, IMPORTANT Call to Action ).

Santa Fe Pro-Life Rally Draws BIG Crowds
Over one thousand pro-life supporters and leaders participated in this year's Sanctity of Life and Unity Day and Pro-Life Youth Summit on January 16th & 17th in at the capitol in Santa Fe.

With innocent lives on the line, pro-life speakers including Rep. Rod Montoya (R- San Juan), stirred up enthusiasm as they talked about the importance of supporting pro-life legislation this session.  Legislators who publicly claim to be Christian like Sen. Jerry Ortiz y Pino, Rep. Patricia Roybal Caballero and others were called to vote for pro-life legislation, rather than work against.

Watch the the video of the rally speeches here.

Top right: Pro-Life march included a thousand participants
Bottom left: Advocates visit in Gov. Martinez office, asking she put all pro-life bills on the call
Bottom right: Pro-Life advocates brave the icy temperatures to participate in energizing rally
Pro-Life Legislation
Three pro-life bills drafted by NMAFL were pre-filed by legislators, addressing the most extreme abortion policies in New Mexico, but only one, HB 56, the Parental Notification of Abortion,  was put "on the call" by Governor Martinez.  However HB 75, the Born Alive and Medical Care Act and HB 76 the Partial and Late-Term Abortion Ban were not placed on the call.

The 2018 legislative session is a 30-day budget session and the Governor has discretion over what bills are "on the call." This year, Governor Martinez staff communicated that a greater committment from Catholic church leaders and Christian churches is neeeded for the pro-life bills to be placed on the call, as opposed to the level of support given to other issues at the legislature.

URGENT: What You Can Do Today

1) Contact the Governor's office: request she place both HB 75, the Born Alive & Medical Care Act and HB 76, the Late-Term Abortion Act on the call at 505-476-2200, emails can be sent here.

2) Ask your pastors, priests and other church leaders to contact the Governor's office and pledge their support for all pro-life legislation and request all pro-life bills to be put on the call.

3) Contact your legislator to support HB 56. Find out who your state legislators are here.

ICYMI: Tips on How to Write Your Legislator
You can start contacting your legislators now. Here are helpful tips from New Mexico State Senator Bill Sharer on what you can do to help:
  • Write a polite letter urging legislators to support the pro-life bills above (using the info sheets), clearly stating a pro-life position in very real human terms, (this is how abortion drove me to ...,  my abortion still haunts me after ___, please protect my daughter from this horror...)
  • Legislators react to dramatic stories and want to quote 'drama' when making presentations".
Don't state the obvious, tell a story.
  • Keep it on one page and only address one bill or issue at a time.
  • After you write the letter, email it, fax it, snail mail it and call their office and briefly tell the story.  If the letter shows up on 4 different days by 4 different methods it has 4 times the impact.
  • Follow up, be persistent and continue to contact your legislators, encourage others to do the same.

2018 is here and we're ready for the new year! We had a number of pro-life victories in 2017, but we need your help to make 2018 a greater success. Find out below how you can help!

Pro-Life Victory!
The scandal-ridden research program using aborted baby body parts at UNM Health Sciences Center (HSC) has been shut down. UNM's top fetal tissue researcher Dr. Robin Ohls was suspended and barred from her lab after she transferred baby body parts to a Michigan company and asked for money to pay her lab assistant. This was a potential violation of federal law (USC 42-289g2) and is in conflict with UNM HSC's past denial that there were unethical or unlawful practices.
Picture

NMAFL was the first to expose Ohls' grisly research and questionable practices including studies using eyes from aborted babies, heart vessels from 57 babies, and more. This contradicts Attorney General Hector Balderas' refusal to prosecute claims on behalf of New Mexico women based on insufficient evidence. [Read more here]

We've had many successes in New Mexico this year, a few of the highlights for the pro-life movement have been:
  • We exposed Planned Parenthood funneling abortion industry money into the Albuquerque mayor's race
  • A district court judge ruled invalid consent form between UNM Health Sciences Center (HSC) and Southwestern Women's Options (SWO)
  • Successfully worked with Congressmen Blackburn and Pearce to get FBI and DOJ investigation of UNM HSC and SWO.

BREAKING: UNM Researcher Suspended Over Fetal Tissue Transfers - Immediate FBI Investigation Needed

1/5/2018

Yesterday evening the Albuquerque Journal published a story after receiving an internal memo from the University of New Mexico (UNM) revealing that top fetal tissue researcher Dr. Robin Ohls was suspended and barred from her lab. Ohls used baby body parts acquired from Southwestern Women's Options (SWO) and transferred them to a Michigan company.

News on the suspension of Ohls comes on the heels of New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas' refusal to prosecute criminal referrals from the Select Panel on Infant Lives investigation of UNM and SWO. Balderas' inaction leaves it to federal prosecutors to pursue justice and prosecute law-breakers.

Corruption and Coverup
"For two years, UNM HSC officials misled the public and protected the lawbreakers in the midst of systemic violations of laws and regulations," said Elisa Martinez, NMAFL executive director. "UNM HSC officials have attempted to conceal the suspension of Robin Ohls, in order to mislead the public and pretend nothing is going on. The entire system is corrupted under the leadership of Chancellor Paul Roth who should also be removed immediately."

The suspension of Robin Ohls highlights the immediate need for the FBI to investigate and Jeff Sessions to prosecute UNM and SWO. Ohls' solicitation of a private company for money in exchange for body parts raises additional concerns about UNM Health Sciences Center's (HSC) compliance with the law. The New Mexico Alliance for Life (NMAFL) calls on the FBI to take immediate steps to obtain all documents and investigate the ongoing multiple violations between UNM HSC and SWO.

Less than a month ago, while Dr. Robin Ohls was suspended,
UNM HSC's spokesperson, Alex Sanchez knowingly misled the public, claiming, "As we have previously stated, we have trained and instructed staff and faculty to conduct their research in compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations and laws and in accordance with the highest ethical standards."

UNM's own investigation and subsequent suspension of Dr. Robin Ohls substantiates the work of NMAFL along with the congressional Select Panel on Infant Lives, identifying multiple violations of the law between UNM HSC and SWO in harvesting infant body parts for research.

In 2015, UNM HSC were forced to disband residency rotations at SWO after NMAFL investigated the relationship between UNM HSC and SWO harvesting fetal tissue for research.

BREAKING: Statement on NM Attorney General Refusal to Prosecute Fetal Tissue Harvesting In NM

1/4/2018

ALBUQUERQUE: Today, New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas sent a letter to the congressional Select Panel on Infant Lives stating there was insufficient evidence to indicate any violation of state law in regard to the relationship between UNM Health Sciences Center and Southwestern Women's Options.

Statement by NM Alliance for Life executive director Elisa Martinez:

"This is a pathetic attempt by Hector Balderas to hide his malpractice as the Attorney General, in failing to prosecute over 100 viable cases within the statute of limitations. We already have a New Mexico District Court stating these same civil cases he failed to prosecute are indeed viable and prosecutable, based on the evidence on its face in violation of NM statute. It is shameful and disgusting that he isn't prosecuting the law on behalf of New Mexico women and by not even bothering to contact the victims, he chose to trust the lawbreakers over trusting women."

Statement from Michael Seibel, Albuquerque attorney currently representing New Mexico victims suing Southwestern Women's Options in NM District Court:

I don't know a single attorney who would issue a non-prosecution letter without talking to the victim, investigating the facts, or indicting a single person, what Hector Balderas did is not justice but rather protecting political special interests,"  said Michael Seibel, an attorney currently representing New Mexico victims suing Southwestern Women's Options in NM District Court.

"My clients are committed to aggressively pursuing Southwestern Women's Options and /or the University of New Mexico in order to protect the rights of women to fully informed consent as required by law."

The New Mexico Alliance for Life is a nonpartisan organization focused on changing state and local laws by empowering women with better and informed choices when facing unplanned or difficult pregnancies and advocating for better protections for women and unborn children from an unsafe abortion industry. It's the season for rejoicing, and as the holidays roll around, we're sharing a re-cap of the many victories we are rejoicing in!
We've been able to accomplish a lot in New Mexico this year, a few of the highlights for the pro-life movement in New Mexico have been:
  • The pro-life community in New Mexico rallied behind our three bills, Parental Notification (HB 221), a Late-term Abortion Ban (HB 220) and the Infant Born Alive Protection Act (HB 37).
  • We defeated FOUR bills attacking life in New Mexico. Physician Assisted Suicide bills (HB 171 and SB 252), Abortion Decriminalization (HB 473), and a bill (SB 282) that would force Christians and faith-affiliated hospitals to perform abortions.
  • Our investigation brought Congressman Marsha Blackburn to New Mexico in April.
  • Four press conferences, including a press conference on the House floor in Santa Fe with Congressman Steve Pearce and the pro-life caucus, sponsoring a bill to defund UNM HSC.
  • We exposed Planned Parenthood funneling abortion industry money into the Albuquerque mayor's race.
  • A district court judge ruled invalid consent form between UNM Health Sciences Center (HSC) and Southwestern Women's Options (SWO).
  • Coalition of pro-life organizations brought Gosnell producer Ann McElhinney and movie to New Mexico.
  • We've exposed state Attorney General Hector Balderas allowing criminal claims expire while doing nothing to investigate criminal referrals issued by Congress last year.
  • Successfully worked with Congressmen Blackburn and Pearce to get FBI and DOJ investigation of UNM HSC and SWO.
  • Working close with leaders from across New Mexico to support life, we also gave presentations across the state.

BREAKING: NMAFL Confirms FBI Investigating UNM Health Sciences Center and Southwestern Women's Options

12/11/2017

Last week, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced that the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center (UNM HSC) and Southwestern Women's Options (SWO) are under criminal investigation by the FBI. In a letter to Congressman Steve Pearce dated December 7th, the DOJ said, "We can confirm that the Criminal Investigative Division of the FBI Headquarters has received this information, including the two referrals made to the New Mexico Attorney General regarding practices of the UNM HSC and SWO, and sent the materials to the relevant FBI field offices for review and any action deemed appropriate.

Picture

The federal action on this referral is a result of our investigations, work with the Select Panel on Infant Lives and partnership with Congressmen Blackburn and Pearce. Read more below.

Earlier reports indicated that only Planned Parenthood was under investigation by the FBI. Late Friday afternoon, Congressmen Marsha Blackburn and Steve Pearce received confirmation from the DOJ that all fifteen criminal referrals sent out by the Congressional Select Panel on Infant Lives are being investigated by the FBI.

"We are thankful that the findings from our work with the Select Panel on Infant Lives are now being investigated by the Department of Justice before the statute of limitations runs out," said Elisa Martinez Executive Director of New Mexico Alliance for Life. "These are serious violations of the law where baby body parts were treated like commodities, women were deceived for years and nobody has held the abortion industry accountable, including New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas. It's time for women, babies, and taxpayers to receive some justice and lawbreakers to be held accountable, whether they are abortionists, researchers or university officials, no one is above the law."

In a statement, Congressman Steve Pearce said, "I applaud today's action by Attorney General Jeff Session to take up the criminal referrals in New Mexico regarding violations made by the University of New Mexico (UNM) and the Southwestern Women's Options (SWO)."

Last month U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions was asked about these criminal referrals under FBI investigation and stated, "Verifying the findings of the Congress could provide a basis for charges."

New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas received 1st criminal referral on June 23, 2015. Balderas received 2nd criminal referral on Dec. 21, 2015. Federal prosecutors cite "systemic violations" of law between UNM HSC and SWO in both referrals. Balderas has not contacted victim cited in 2nd criminal referral, Jessica Duran and others. Criminal claims will continue to expire, over 100 claims have already, due to the statute of limitations to prosecute until Balderas issues a criminal complaint. Expiring claims include the illegal harvesting of eyes, brains, hearts, and even skin from aborted infants 16 weeks gestation through 22 weeks.

Despite overwhelming evidence in his possession since last year, including an admission of guilt from SWO abortionist, Balderas has yet to file a criminal complaint (indictment). Read more.

"This is a huge step that we hope will result in prosecutions for those who broke the law and bring justice for the women who have been abused and hurt and the children whose lives were ended," said Elisa Martinez, NMAFL executive director.

NMAFL Works to Ensure FBI Investigates University of New Mexico and Southwestern Women's Options

Yesterday, the U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions confirmed that Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers could face criminal charges for illicit harvesting and trafficking of baby body parts, "Verifying the findings of the Congress could provide a basis for charges."

Earlier this week, the FBI requested unredacted documents from the Senate Judiciary committee which issued a referral to the U.S. Attorney General last year, after investigating Planned Parenthood and others.

Although the Senate investigation chaired by Sen. Grassley didn't include the University of New Mexico Health Science Center (UNMHSC) and Southwestern Women's Options (SWO), New Mexico Alliance for Life (NMAFL) is working closely with members of Congress to ensure the violations of federal and state statute are included in any FBI probes. NMAFL consulted with the congressional Select Panel on Infant Lives and provided thousands of documents resulting in the two criminal referrals issued for UNMHSC and SWO last year including SWO's failure to acquire proper consent by women prior to using their unborn infant tissue for UNM research.

"There is substantial evidence found by Congress indicating criminal wrongdoing on behalf of not only Planned Parenthood but the University of New Mexico and Southwestern Women's Options abortion business in the exchange of fetal tissue," said Elisa Martinez Executive Director of  New Mexico Alliance for Life. "We are working closely with members of Congress, including Congressman Steve Pearce to ensure these violations of the law in New Mexico are prosecuted."

Recent inquiries by the FBI come on the heels of a letter sent to Sessions by Congressman Steve Pearce, Congressman Marsha Blackburn and other members of Congress requesting an investigation and prosecution, into the Congressional Select Panel on Infant Lives investigation and findings. Sadly, NM Attorney General Hector Balderas has allowed over 100 criminal claims on behalf of NM women to expire since receiving the criminal referrals from Congress.

Planned Parenthood surgical abortion business and Planned Parenthood Votes political operation in Albuquerque.

The Albuquerque mayoral run-off election between candidates Dan Lewis and Tim Keller will be November 14, 2017 and early voting has already started. Will Albuquerque residents continue to embrace the distinction as the late term-abortion capitol of the nation by electing a pro-abortion mayor or one who will work to end this tragedy? NMAFL exclusively reports that the Planned Parenthood political machine is out in full force in support of their pro-abortion up to the day of birth candidate, Tim Keller.  Find out where candidates Dan Lewis and Tim Keller stand and voting information below.

We first exposed 'Catholic' Tim Keller taking campaign money from scandal ridden, late-term abortionist Curtis Boyd in 2014. As a result of our investigations exposing donations like Boyd's, the abortion industry has resorted to using dark money from out-of-state. This means donations cannot be traced back to any single individual, in a financial shell game to conceal individual donor identities.

We now report that while unborn babies are dismembered in Albuquerque at the taxpayer-funded Planned Parenthood surgical abortion business, a building away, Planned Parenthood Votes volunteers phone bank for their abortion champion Tim Keller. In fact, abortion activists are so invested in this election, they've formed their own campaign arm, Planned Parenthood Votes Albuquerque, registered with the City of Albuquerque to elect Tim Keller. Another group, Denver-based Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains provided campaign staff and salaries to "work on campaign", and more.

The out-of-state dark money hand of the Planned Parenthood machine dumped $30k into Albuquerque's election.  It appears Planned Parenthood Votes Albuquerque has spent over $24k on the mayor's race so far. Make sure to share this important information with others.
