NM Alliance for Life Calls on Gov. Lujan Grisham to End Non-Essential Abortion Procedures Due to COVID-19 Risk
New Mexico Alliance For Life is calling on Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham to take immediate action and abide by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid directives to limit all non-essential medical procedures in the state of New Mexico. Despite the risk of exposure to patients and transmission across state lines, as well as limited medical supplies and personnel on the front lines, non-essential clinics continue to operate in New Mexico offering elective or non-essential abortion procedures:
* Southwestern Women’s Options 522 Lomas Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87102 * Planned Parenthood of Albuquerque surgical clinic: 701 San Mateo Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108 * UNM Center for Reproductive Health 2301 Yale Blvd SE suite E, Albuquerque, NM 87106 * Women's Reproductive Clinic of Sunland Park5290 McNutt Rd #106, Santa Teresa, NM 88008 * Planned Parenthood Santa Fe Health Center730 St. Michael's Drive, Suite 4B, Santa Fe, NM 87505
These entities actively advertise and accommodate out-of-state patients due to New Mexico’s lack of protections for abortion procedures, including: no parental involvement requirement for abortions on underage minors, and the ability to obtain elective or “non-essential” abortion procedures up to 32 weeks ( 8 months) and beyond on a “case by case” basis.
As Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has indicated, the postponement of non-essential services not only preserves limited medical supplies and personal protective equipment for the greatest area of need during the pandemic. It will also allow medical personnel to serve those on the frontlines and protect patients by limiting their exposure to Coronavirus.
It is well established that the majority of abortions are non-medically necessary or “non-essential” procedures that must be postponed. This is an urgent matter of public health and safety and to not act in accordance with the non-essential medical procedure directives jeopardizes public health and safety.
Sign here tell Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham to comply with the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid directives to immediately postpone all non-essential medical services including non-essential abortions during the COVID-19 pandemic as a matter of public health and safety.
Give Gov. Lujan Grisham's office a call and ask her to stop all non-essential abortion procedures in New Mexico. Her office number is (505) 476-2200.
