Read more below on upcoming pro-life events. Democrat Reps. Eliseo Alcon, Patricia Roybal Caballero and Deborah Armstrong, exposed their hypocrisy in a vote Saturday, in favor of HB 332, "Parental Notification Via Text," for students missing school. As we reported, these same legislators, voted to kill HB 56, the Parental Notification of Abortion Act in committee, requiring parents be notified before their daughter is taken for an abortion. "This goes to show that New Mexico's children are being exploited by the abortion industry and the abortion lobby," said Elisa Martinez NMAFL Exec. Director. "Representatives Alcon, Caballero and Armstrong are sending a chilling message to New Mexicans, that they don't care about children, they care more about protecting abortionists and the abortion lobby than our children. " As Rep. Bob Wooley, who voted for parental notification of abortion stated: remember these representatives when it comes election time. Planned Parenthood's "Champion" Tries to Shut Down Pro-Life Testimony in Honor of Officer Ryan Holets
Planned Parenthood celebrated House Speaker Brian Egolf as their "fierce advocate and champion" just last week. Planned Parenthood declared they honor him for "his hard work and dedication to Planned Parenthood." Rep. Brian Egolf didn't disappoint the Planned Parenthood lobby when he tried to shut down pro-life testimony in honor of Officer Ryan Holets for "Angels On Earth" Day at the Legislature last week. Apparently, even hearing testimony honoring angels on earth, like Holets, saving babies from becoming a "reproductive health choice"-- was too much for the Speaker and his pro-abortion allies to hear. Watch video below. Additionally, in a sweeping move to stifle citizen participation at the Legislature, after Angel's on Earth Day, Speaker Egolf banned guests like Officer Holets from being invited on the House Floor. Testimony read by Rep. Rick Little on behalf of CareNet Pregnancy Center of Santa Fe Director, Roberta Cheek. Roberta worked with a young woman who was seeking a late-term abortion in Albuquerque. Yesterday, the New Mexico State House passed House Memorial 57, "Angels on Earth" Day honoring Albuquerque Police Department Officer Ryan Holets, sponsored by representatives Rebecca Dow (R - Grant, Hidalgo, Sierra) and Tim Lewis (R - Bernalillo). Officer Holets, along with a handful of Albuquerque Police Department Officers and representatives from pro-life organizations across the state, were guests on the House Floor in order to bring awareness to alternatives to abortion, adoption, and addiction for women facing unplanned or difficult pregnancies. "People have asked why I went out of my way to help Tom and Crystal, Hope's parents. They have value," said Officer Ryan Holets in a press conference Tuesday morning. "I was affected by Crystal and her love for Hope before she was born. One of the most powerful statements Crystal made to me was that she believes she has a choice, but she still could not bring herself to end the life of her baby because she loved her and that is the reason she continued with her pregnancy." New Mexico Alliance for Life along with pro-life partners including CareNet Pregnancy Centers, Alongside Ministries, the Zoe Project and others shared pro-life, addiction and adoption testimonials. "Despite rude and distracting behavior from some House Democrats, including pro-abortion Speaker Brian Egolf, trying to shut down testimonials, "Angels on Earth" Day brought a positive presence to what is sometimes a very dark place," said Elisa Martinez, NMAFL executive director. "Many of the Democrats who fight to keep abortion legal for babies like Hope--who very well could have been a late-term abortion statistic, were barely able to acknowledge Officer Holets, a national hero, and champion for pro-life and pro-love choices." "Many of the Democrats who fight to keep abortion legal for babies like Hope--who very well could have been a late-term abortion statistic, were barely able to acknowledge Officer Holets, a national hero, and champion for pro-life and pro-love choices." In New Mexico, abortion is legal throughout all 9 months of pregnancy and often mothers like Crystal, who was 8 months along with baby Hope, are pressured to abort their child. Southwestern Women's Options in Albuquerque, does abortions well past 27 weeks on a "case by case basis." Rebecca Dow, "Because of Crystal's brave decision, Hope has a bright future and a wonderful life to live. Instead of being a nameless statistic of an ended pregnancy, her beautiful face brings joy each day to those around her. Hope is living proof that adoption saves lives." Throughout the time Officer Holets was honored on the House floor, House Democrats were disrespectfully conversing loudly or were not even present. Left: Rep. Other legislators from the Republican House Caucus honored "Angels on Earth" from their own communities. Representative Larry Larranaga (R- Bernalillo) spoke on behalf of his guest Kaydence West Bero, a lively 2 year old who was born with Down Syndrome. "Kaydence had to undergo heart surgery and intestinal surgery shortly after birth," said Larranaga. "Kaydence is one of the lucky ones, because 85% of all Down Syndrome babies are aborted, simply because they are termed disabled. What a tragedy. I stand here to speak for them."
Rep. Bob Wooley (R-Lea) introduced Carolyn and Mike Hardwick who chose life for their daughter after OB/GYNs and healthcare professionals informed them their baby would not survive and recommended pregnancy termination. Today the daughter they chose to keep is 36 years old, holds a master's degree and has children of her own. "It is a shame that our society does not have more individuals like Officer Ryan Holets and others who were introduced by legislators here today," said Rep. Greg Nibert (R- Chaves, Lincoln). Albuquerque Police Department Officer Ryan Holets and his wife, Rebecca, adopted baby Hope from a homeless Albuquerque woman addicted to opioids. The birth mother, Crystal Champ refers to Officer Holets as her "angel on earth." After receiving national attention for his heroic actions, Officer Holets and his family attended the State of the Union address in Washington, D.C., as guests of the First Lady last week. The Holets' mission is to help change the country's view of those trapped in the grips of addiction and homelessness. Saturday, the House Consumer and Public Affairs Committee voted to kill HB 56, the Parental Notification of Abortion Act, in a 3-2 party-line vote. Democrats on the committee chose to side with the abortion lobby over the rights of parents and the health and safety of girls across New Mexico. Representative Roybal Caballero, a Catholic legislator, claimed she considered the abortion decision "sacred" and used that reasoning to vote for killing this bill protecting young girls. Rep. Eliseo Alcon, who also voted to kill HB 56, showed more concern about saving dying fish than protecting girls from sexual abusers who take them in for an abortion. Opponents of HB 56 ignorantly claim "the Legislature is not the best place to make individual medical decisions," despite the fact pro-abortion Rep. Deborah Armstrong who voted against the bill, sponsored 47 bills impacting "individual medical decisions" last year. HB 56 addressed a loophole in state law allowing pregnant teens to be taken off school premises for an abortion without a parent's knowledge. The bill would require a parent be notified before an unemancipated minor can receive an abortion. Read the Albuquerque Journal story here. Dr. Mary Rose Turner a 32-year practicing ER anesthesiologist (pictured below) shared expert testimony asking, "Would you want [forceps] inserted inside your daughter without your knowledge?" Dr. Turner further explained complications of uterine rupture, sepsis and the higher risks of complications without a complete family medical history, which only parents can provide. "Uterine perforation that results in life-threatening bleeding has led to death," Dr. Turner continued and described the danger of having a late-term abortion in an outpatient clinic. "When babies die of natural causes in the uterus after 13 weeks gestation, this same procedure is always performed in a hospital under general anesthesia, with blood immediately available for transfusion, personnel and instruments on hand to perform emergency hysterectomy if needed to save the mother's life." "We're being webcast today and I hope everyone out there is watching," said Representative Bob Wooley, a committee member. "Remember when you go to vote next year, remember who voted to keep parents out of their daughters lives." Above left: Moriarity High School student Olivia Marcus, who testified in support of HB 56. Above right: Representatives Rod Montoya, David Gallegos and Rick Little during HB 56 committee hearing. "According to countless studies, even those cited by Planned Parenthood, 60-80% of pregnant minors 15 and under are impregnated by adult males," said Elisa Martinez, executive director of New Mexico Alliance for Life. "Again, look no further than U.S. Gymnastics Dr. Larry Nassar, who sexually abused over 150 young women and girls. In this climate, why would we possibly want to exclude parental involvement?" Martinez pointed out that the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, has actively opposed HB 56, while their website supports parental notification and states, "New Mexico does no require parental consent or notification, (although some states do). Even though it may not be required by law, we strongly recommend that young woman discuss their pregnancy with their parents. Representatives Eliseo Alcon (D - McKinley & Cibola), Deborah Armstrong (D - Bernalillo), Patricia Roybal Caballero (D - Bernalillo) voted to kill the bill, while representatives Monica Youngblood (R - Bernalillo) and Bob Wooley - (R - Chaves, Lea & Roosevelt), voted to advance the bill. Officer Ryan and Mrs. Rebecca Holets Honored in Santa Fe New Mexico Alliance for Life (NMAFL) invites you to celebrate compelling pro-life and adoption stories on Angels on Earth Day, in honor of Officer Ryan and Rebecca Holets at the legislature, in the morning session beginning at 10:00a.m. February 6th through noon.
