NMAFL Works to Ensure FBI Investigates University of New Mexico and Southwestern Women's Options11/16/2017 Yesterday, the U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions confirmed that Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers could face criminal charges for illicit harvesting and trafficking of baby body parts, "Verifying the findings of the Congress could provide a basis for charges." Earlier this week, the FBI requested unredacted documents from the Senate Judiciary committee which issued a referral to the U.S. Attorney General last year, after investigating Planned Parenthood and others. Although the Senate investigation chaired by Sen. Grassley didn't include the University of New Mexico Health Science Center (UNMHSC) and Southwestern Women's Options (SWO), New Mexico Alliance for Life (NMAFL) is working closely with members of Congress to ensure the violations of federal and state statute are included in any FBI probes. NMAFL consulted with the congressional Select Panel on Infant Lives and provided thousands of documents resulting in the two criminal referrals issued for UNMHSC and SWO last year including SWO's failure to acquire proper consent by women prior to using their unborn infant tissue for UNM research. "There is substantial evidence found by Congress indicating criminal wrongdoing on behalf of not only Planned Parenthood but the University of New Mexico and Southwestern Women's Options abortion business in the exchange of fetal tissue," said Elisa Martinez Executive Director of New Mexico Alliance for Life. "We are working closely with members of Congress, including Congressman Steve Pearce to ensure these violations of the law in New Mexico are prosecuted." Recent inquiries by the FBI come on the heels of a letter sent to Sessions by Congressman Steve Pearce, Congressman Marsha Blackburn and other members of Congress requesting an investigation and prosecution, into the Congressional Select Panel on Infant Lives investigation and findings. Sadly, NM Attorney General Hector Balderas has allowed over 100 criminal claims on behalf of NM women to expire since receiving the criminal referrals from Congress.
