Albuquerque- The New Mexico Alliance for Life (NMAFL) demands Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham, a staunch proponent of allowing abortion until the day of birth, retract her irresponsible and untruthful statement that the Pain Capable Bill, H.R. 36 does not include exceptions for the health of the mother.
"It is no secret that Rep. Lujan Grisham is an abortion extremist who believes in abortion for any reason until the day of birth but as an elected official to outright misinform the public on the content of an important piece of legislation shows one of two things. She's either not competent to read the bill or she is not telling the truth" said Elisa Martinez, NMAFL executive director. "If pro-abortion extremists like Michelle Lujan Grisham can justify killing a seven pound baby up to the day of birth, it's no surprise they are also willing to mislead the public in attempt to defend such an unreasonable and unpopular position." In a press release issued yesterday from her Congressional office, Rep. Lujan Grisham incorrectly states "House Republicans voted to ban abortion, without providing an exception for the health of the mother." However the legislation explicitly states in section 3 (page 7 of the bill) , "in reasonable medical judgment, the abortion is necessary to save the life of a pregnant woman whose life is endangered by a physical disorder, physical illness, or physical injury, including a life-endangering physical condition caused by or arising from the pregnancy itself." Additionally Rep. Lujan Grisham's statement on the popularity of opposing the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act is false and misleading, "the public overwhelmingly supports the protection of women's healthcare option." Most recently, a 2014 Quinnipiac poll found that 60 percent of Americans, including 56 percent of Independents and 46 percent of Democrats, support the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.
