LATE-TERM ABORTION IS NOT SAFE & NOT RARE, ESPECIALLY IN NEW MEXICO Business as usual yesterday at Albuquerque's Late-Term Abortion facility, the largest in the country. Women travel from across the country and other parts of the world to New Mexico for elective late-term abortion up to the day of birth. The barbaric procedure is a week long process with a 91 times greater risk of death for women than first trimester abortion. New Mexico has the highest percentage of late-term abortions in the country according to the CDC. This is why New Mexico Alliance for Life is calling on New Mexico Democrat Senators to take a courageous stand to join the 42 states and 191 countries that have already banned barbaric late-term abortion. This is not a partisan issue or a religious issue. It is a human rights issue. Dr. Anthony Levatino, a pro-life OB/GYN in Las Cruces who formerly preformed over one hundred late-term abortions, testified before the NM Senate Public Affairs Committee and described just how barbaric late-term abortion is. Some pro-abortion advocates chose to cover their ears, as others remained riveted. We hope that the reality of this gruesome and unnecessary practice awakens the minds of those who have denied the truth-- that late-term abortion is not safe, it is not rare and kills a viable human being. Additionally, Dr. Maryrose Turner explained in detail the exponential risk of late-term abortion for women is "off the charts," and so dangerous "the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology stops collecting data after 21 weeks." You can see her op-ed "Late-term abortions put women as well as unborn at risk" in the Albuquerque Journal. Both medical experts provided testimony at the Senate Public Affairs hearing on Sunday, where five Democrat state senators representing a single county of the 33 in the entire state, chose to ignore the legal, medical and statistical facts while making a mockery of the hearing. One county does not and should not represent the state as a whole. Rather than submitting a single question to the expert panel, these senators chose to issue politicized statements that were obviously prepared beforehand in what amounted to nothing short of a sham hearing. Senators Ivey Soto and Jacob Candelaria did not even bother to read the bill as they repeatedly referenced inaccurate and irrelevant information during the HB 390 hearing. Democrat Chairman Ortiz y Pino announced they were "not qualified" to make these decisions but in a partisan manner, he and each Senate Democrat on the committee made the admittedly unqualified decision to table both bills -- voting to block both HB 390 Late-Term Abortion Ban and HB 391 Parental Notification for Abortion. These Democrat senators representing Bernalillo county include: Senator Ortiz y Pino, Senator Ivey- Soto, Senator Jacob Candelaria, Senator Bill O'Neill, Senator Mimi Stewart. New Mexico Alliance for Life applauds the votes for HB 390 and HB 391 from Senator Craig Brandt, Senator Gay Kernan and Senator Ron Griggs. With three days remaining in 2015 Legislature, it is urgent our leaders take a bold stand in protecting viable unborn children whose lives are being snuffed out by late-term abortion and for the young girls taken for abortions without their parents knowledge. These issues are so appalling and horrific that they require emergency action taken by our state Senate. Make sure to use points made in this email when contacting NM State Senators. We, the citizens of New Mexico call on the NM state Senate to vote to send the Late-Term Abortion Ban (HB 390) and Parental Notification (HB 391) to the Senate Floor for a full vote. We call on our leaders to represent us, and not the profiteering agenda of the abortion industry and their paid activists. PLEASE CONTACT YOUR NM STATE SENATOR AND THE SENATORS LISTED WHILE THERE IS STILL TIME. TELL THEM TO SEND HB 390 AND HB 391 TO THE SENATE FLOOR. LIVES ARE AT STAKE.
