Historic: US Senate Defunds Planned Parenthood

Historic Vote in US Senate to Defund Planned Parenthood, Obamacare

Yesterday, the U.S Senate successfully voted to strip Planned Parenthood's federal funding, sending it instead to comprehensive health care centers that serve low-income women and their families.   Despite the rhetoric about attacks on women's health, this bill increases funding to community and federally qualified health centers, which in New Mexico outnumber Planned Parenthoods 6 to 165-- serving a far greater number of women in need.  
Senator James Lankford (R-OK), who voted in favor of defunding Planned Parenthood stated: 

"We understand we have a president that strongly supports Planned Parenthood and what they do. We get that. But we also don't want this issue to go away. We want to continue to be able to raise it over and over again and say, "Is this what Americans really believe?"

New Mexico Alliance for Life also will continue to raise these issues over and over again, as we expose leaders and the abortion industry we ask "is this what New Mexican's really believe?" 

As expected, NM's pro-abortion US Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich who are indebted to the abortion industry's campaign donations, voted against the measure, which also repeals Obamacare.  Most likely, pro-abortion President Obama will undoubtedly veto the bill. Neither the House nor the Senate have enough pro-life votes to override a veto, but this is still a historic moment for our country.
