Friends of Life, Last week, the House Regulatory & Public Affairs Committee voted 4-3 to move the Late-Term Abortion Ban Act (HB 390) and the Parental Notification of Abortion Act (HB 391) out of committee and over to the House Judiciary committee. The House Judiciary committee will hear both bills starting at 1:30 PM on Friday, February 27th in either room 307 or 309. Please plan on being there as early as possible, as the pro-abortion paid activists will be there very early. As New Mexicans, we know that abortion up to the day of birth--for any reason has no place in our state. There is no justifiable reason for elective late-term abortion to be taking place in our backyard, its common sense to end this barbaric practice that still only exists in places like North Korea and China--and the vast majority of Americans agree. We also know that on a straight up or down question, the people of Albuquerque support a 20 week ban on abortion 55% to 39% according to an Albuquerque Journal poll. Planned Parenthood spent over 1 million dollars to buy the 20 week ban election in Albuquerque and confuse voters. Let's make sure they don't buy votes this time. We also know that 12 year old girls should not be responsible to manage their own healthcare, especially when it comes to abortion-- an invasive, surgical procedure that has a lifelong impact, not to mention the dozens of physical and psychological complications she is expected to manage all alone. It should be a doctor's responsibility to notify a minor girl's parents when she is seeking to undergo an abortion-- this is the very minimum that should be done in order to protect our girls. If a young girl needs parental consent and notification to open a bank account in the state of New Mexico, an abortion doctor needs to at least notify a young girl's parent seeking abortion. No young girl should have to face this life changing surgical procedure alone. If the abortion industry truly cares about the health and safety of women as they try to tell us, then they should be joining us in support of both of these common sense measures. However, we know they are really about their bottom line over the health and safety of women, unborn children and our girls. The abortion industry and their paid activists are prepared to fight these common sense measures that most people on all sides of the issue can agree upon. The abortion industry must be held accountable and it starts with you.
