Senator Pete Campos was the only Democrat to vote for motion, but sadly Late-Term Abortion Ban fails to be heard Senate Majority Leader Michael Sanchez calls on Senate to reject motion to hear HB 390, protects "order of committee process" over the sanctity of life. 23 Senate Democrats vote in lock step with abortion industry to keep abortion legal up to the day of birth in NM. In yet another partisan manner, 23 New Mexico Senate Democrats voted today to block HB 390 from moving to the Senate Floor for a fair vote. Senate Majority Leader Michael Sanchez (D- Los Lunas) insists that the voice of the people of New Mexico and the lives of hundreds, if not thousands of unborn children were less important than the "order of the committee system." With one day remaining in the 2015 Legislature, he and the 22 Senate Democrats who voted in lock step with the abortion industry blocked any further progress for HB 390, the Late-Term Abortion Ban. New Mexico Alliance for Life applauds the motion made by Senator William Sharer (R-Farmington) and 15 other Senators (16 total) including sole Democrat, Pete Campos (D-Las Vegas) for voting for the motion to move HB 390 to the Senate Floor. New Mexico Alliance for Life Executive Director, Elisa Martinez stated, "It is a sad day for New Mexicans who are fed up with the abortion industry fighting against the voice of the people and obviously influencing our elected officials to do the same," Martinez said, "We will continue to expose the profiteering interests of the abortion industry as well as holding our elected officials accountable to us, and not the extreme and regressive positions of the abortion industry."
