New Mexico Alliance for Life 2017
Albuquerque Mayor’s Race Candidate Questionnaire
Dan Lewis
1. Do you consider yourself pro-life?
Yes
2. What would you do as mayor to end Albuquerque's distinction as the late-term abortion capital of the country?
I grieve that New Mexico is the least restrictive abortion state in the nation, and that Albuquerque is considered the “Late term abortion capital of the entire United States.”
That unsavory reputation draws people to our city to procure something they cannot obtain from virtually every other city in America: abortion on demand, even up to the baby’s day of birth. Unfortunately, that is one list our City regrettably tops.
As a City Councilor, I fought hard and was very publicly vocal about my stance on abortion and specifically late-term abortion. I worked with life groups to ensure the question would be on the ballot, voted for the election resolution that created the ballot question, and ultimately put it before the voters.
3. What would do as mayor to promote a “culture of life” in Albuquerque? What does that look like to you?
As Mayor, I will take seriously my responsibility to ensure all facilities within our city, including abortion clinics, that provide medical health and safety services to our residents and visitors are in compliance with required business and health regulations. To that end, our Solid Waste Department inspects and reviews Infectious Waste disposal practices, the Zoning Enforcement Division inspects and reviews facilities in the City to determine whether their activities are within permitted uses under the current code or its variances, and the Environmental Health Department and Code Administration Division ensures proper disposal of waste products and inspects premises for insect and rodent infestations.
I'll also encourage and support the Youth Advisory Council to establish a teen pregnancy prevention program. The Youth Advisory Council was established to “Promote and assist in the establishment of effective programs for the prevention of delinquency, youth crimes, crimes against youth, and neglect,” and “Advise the Mayor and City Council on City programs geared toward youth, including the need for new expanded programs.”
I appreciate the great support of those who stand for Life in Albuquerque, including the many churches, organizations and individuals who have been in the trenches for many years to end the horrible killing of unborn children.
Anyone is welcome to reach out to me any time. My cell is 505-615-6507. I look forward to answering any questions you have and ask for your thoughts and ideas as well as your prayers.
