RADICAL NM BILL KEEPS ABORTION UP TO BIRTH, STRIPS PROTECTIONS
Bill sponsor receives 30k from abortion lobby
On December 16, NM state Rep. Joanne Ferrary, (D-Las Cruces) filed HB-51 which would repeal a New Mexico abortion statute, leaving loopholes in the state law allowing for the continuation of elective abortion up to the date of birth.
Due to pro-abortionlegislators blocking common sense protections for women and unborn children from the abortion industry, NM has become a destination for women seeking dangerous late-term abortions which are legal up to birth--for any reason. A handful of these "progressive" legislators, even voted against protecting babies born alive during abortions.
Each year we have highlighted the medical research that shows abortions performed after 21 weeks carry an 89 times greater risk of death than those performed in the first trimester. Yet Rep. Ferrary's bill does nothing to protect women from unsafe abortions after 5 months. (Read more below about what you can do to fight back).
"Currently abortions are being performed in unregulated outpatient clinics up to the very moment of birth, yet this bill does nothing to address this unsafe practice,"said House Minority Whip Rod Montoya.
"This legislation also fails to protect underage girls who are taken in for an abortion without their parent's knowledge. Instead it protects sexual predators from being found out and prosecuted."
Ferrary previously proposed the politically-charged bill in 2017, but the measure failed in an NM House Committee. Governor-elect Michelle Lujan Grisham, who has voted against limiting abortion after 5 months while in Congress, has stated she would sign the measure.
BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE...
New Mexico Alliance for Life has also uncovered the fact thatRep. Ferrary has accepted large contributions from the DC abortion lobby totaling almost $30,000. Is it no wonder why she is willing to put women's lives at risk? "The special interest groups behind HB 51 aredeceiving the public by claiming the bill would provide 'access to safe abortions,'despite consensus in the medical community that abortions after five months are exponentially unsafe for women, as it is inhumane for children," said Elisa Martinez."The Democrat sponsors of this bill must explain to the public why they are willing to risk women's lives over special interests." If Ferrary's dangerous repeal bill is passed and signed by Governor-elect Michelle Lujan Grisham, New Mexico women and children's lives are at risk. Please stay tuned as NMAFL will release further analysis of the many dangerous implications of this extreme attack on women and childrens' lives.
